Do you or someone you know receive hemodialysis at a clinic? Patients at dialysis clinics rely on many health professionals to provide care and protect them from illness. Dialysis technicians ensure each patient’s dialysis machine runs properly during treatment. During National Dialysis Technician Recognition Week (October 11-16), learn more about what they do and how to show your appreciation for their work.*

What Is A Dialysis Tech?

Dialysis techs undergo significant training and require accreditation from a dialysis technician program. In in-center dialysis centers, they provide direct patient care and are responsible for:

  • Assembling and maintaining dialysis machines
  • Monitoring patients undergoing dialysis treatment
  • Maintaining safety and cleanliness standards when operating the machines
  • Educating patients on the dialysis process and other health care needs
  • Working in tandem with other members of the dialysis team

What Are Ways to Recognize Techs during National Dialysis Technician Week?

Whether you are a patient or healthcare professional, there is so much you can do to show your appreciation for your dialysis techs. Some ideas include:

  • Create or purchase a poster to display in the lobby, treatment area, and/or breakroom
  • As a patient or fellow team member, sign a card or certificate to provide to your dialysis tech(s)
  • As a supervisor or co-worker, provide lunch for your dialysis techs
  • Give a gift such as candy, a subscription gift box, coffee, etc.
  • Share pics and messages of thanks on social media

This week is a great time to be creative and thoughtful to hard-working dialysis techs. Discover 24 more ways to celebrate where team members, supervisors, and/or patients can participate.
